Ever wondered what a full maternity photography session gallery might look like?
This session was shot in the middle of winter at one of Melbournes spectacular beaches on the Mornington Peninsula. These beach sunset photography sessions typically start in the hour prior to sunset, depending on the time of year, this can range in start time from 4pm in the middle of winter to 8pm in the height of summer and daylight savings. The light at this time of day is magical but always a little different – in most cases (similar to this day) the weather gods can often turn on quite a show as the sun sets – even when the day has been drab – the whole drive to this session the sun dipped in and out from behind dark stormy clouds but when we got there the sun made an appearance against the backdrop of dark weather clouds in the distance – my favourite.
For maternity photography sessions I suggest they take place somewhere between 32 and 36 weeks. This means your belly will be full and rounded but that you are not pushing it too close to your due date and also pretty mobile! I invite your partners and other children to participate, although you are the main focus – they are certainly part of this journey and it can be a nice time to capture your family together before you add your newest little member.
Equally I have some mothers that want to use this session as I special treat just for themselves – of course this is completely up to you.
Dresses are complimentary to use as part of my session fee from my growing client wardrobe. I can also suggest some amazing maternity dress hire companies, one of which is even on the way to many of my photoshoot locations on the Mornington Peninsula so you can even collect on the way if post does not suit (plus they offer a discount code!) Your session will allow for at least 2 if not 3 dress changes – 1 of which I suggest should be a robe – so we can capture some of those beautiful bare belly shots.
We’ll do whatever you are comfortable with, if you are brave and so inclined I love to capture mums in the water at the end of the session – so bring something to change into or a robe to rug up in between shots if we are photographing during the cooler months…we didn’t quite make it into the water with this session as it was freezing but you can see that in an hours photography session we can capture so much!
